A week later and I've got a bit to show for my SketchUp self-training. I've pretty much figured out how it's going to work for me. I'm starting to doodle some benchwork ideas along with the official remodeling plans.

Drawing the basement remodel using SketchUp
I downloaded a free 3-D drawing program called SketchUp. Now let me tell you there's quite a steep learning curve--but after a couple of days messing with it I generated this basement drawing.
I'm convinced it would be worth it to invest the time learning this beast of a program. I support computers in my day job--so I'm not easily intimidated by computer applications. I'll just put in the time required to master this program and the investment will pay off in the long run. I'll have a powerful tool for drawing whatever I need.

Moving Day
Hey, there's old Roundy-Roundy on the back of the moving truck!
Pool clean-up was going to commence BEFORE there would be any railroading.
Thankfully it didn't take very long to get the pool sparkling clean.

The Dream -- A model railroad of immodest proportions
![]() |
In this blog I will document the progress as we construct a model railroad empire in my basement. We will begin construction in south Springdale along Turner Avenue. Eventually the line will extend as does the prototype from its southern terminus at Fort Smith, Arkansas, to its northern interchange with BNSF RR in Monett, Missouri.
